Lumen Christi Catholic Parish
Mequon, Wisconsin
Years ago, the Archdiocese combined St. Cecilia Parish of Thiensville and St. James Parish of Mequon into Lumen Christi. However, both campuses of these churches continued to be utilized for various functions serving the combined parish now known as Lumen Christi. In order to create operational efficiencies and address the future needs of the growing parish population, Lumen Christi expanded its Mequon campus church and school.
The parish purchased an adjacent parcel so that site parking could be better located adjacent to a new church entrance. The nave and sanctuary were reconfigured to align with the new entrance and narthex. This realignment of the space provided greater seating capacity within the worship space.
In the most recent project, the old gym, which was attached to the worship space, was converted to parish offices and community rooms. The existing parish office, which is attached to the school, was converted to a new school entrance and school office. A new gym addition, including four specialty classrooms for music, art and science activities, were added to the school structure. As part of the master planning process, the scope of the project also included six additional classrooms and a renovation of all the existing school space.
