Berghammer’s Special Projects Division has been working on restoration of the historic Rose Window at Immanuel Presbyterian Church. Originally built in 1874, this Gothic Revival church is home to one of Milwaukee’s oldest congregations.
In fall 2024, our team coordinated the removal of the original Rose window and wood frame and then installed a custom temporary enclosure to protect the church from the elements throughout the restoration process. Masonry repairs around the window opening were also completed before the restored window could be reinstalled.
Once the window and frame were removed, we installed an insert into the opening to keep the elements out. A graphic was applied to the wood to make it look nicer during construction. Then, our partners at Zuehlsdorf Woodworks, LLC recreated the historic wood frame, while Oakbrook Esser Studios meticulously restored the original stained glass. In May, the frame and window were reinstalled, preserving an important piece of architectural history.
