Celebrating Women in Construction Week with Joanne Roubik

Women in Construction Week is a great way to recognize the different career paths that women are pursuing and how a growing number of women are finding fulfillment in a construction career. We talked to Project Engineer, Joanne Roubik, who has been in construction for 6 years to see what drew her to the industry.

What types of projects do you work on?

I work specifically on special projects which involves a lot of smaller renovations for offices and retail spaces.

What drew you to engineering?

I really liked math in school and that lead me to studying Engineering at Marquette. I also like being able to help people when I can complete a project that will have an impact on their everyday lives.

What do you enjoy most about your day-to-day work?

I enjoy being able to go out to a job site and walk around the space. It helps me visualize what I’m working with. Every project is different and every client’s needs are different, so taking a hands-on approach is key. I also get to interact with a lot of different people and gain knowledge from their experiences.
